Tartini Competition

14.11.2025

Dear friends and fellow musicians around the world

It is with great joy and pride that we invite you to the 5th edition of the Tartini International Competition – Piran.
After twelve years, more than 600 young artists from 26 countries, and five inspiring chapters of music and friendship, our competition has grown into a true tradition – one of the most vibrant events of its kind in this part of Europe, dedicated to young violinists and pianists up to the age of 20.
Those who have already joined us know that Tartini is not just a competition – it is an encounter filled with kindness, discovery, and shared passion for music. Many have called it “the friendliest competition”, a title we hold especially dear.

The magic of the event begins with its setting – Piran, a small coastal jewel where history, light, and art intertwine. This walled medieval town, one of the most beautiful on the Adriatic, is the birthplace of Giuseppe Tartini – violin virtuoso, composer, theorist, and teacher of European fame. His music remains the soul of our competition, and young violinists have the unique honor of performing in the composer’s very birthplace.

More than three centuries later, another artist fell under the spell of this town – Bojan Glavina, whose lyrical and expressive works have touched hearts far beyond Slovenia’s borders. His compositions are an essential part of the competition repertoire for young pianists, and Piran proudly claims him as one of its own.

Perhaps it is something in the air, the sea breeze, or the rhythm of the waves that awakens creativity here. One of our missions is to nurture young composers, alongside the many gifted performers we meet. A special award is therefore devoted to the best original composition, chosen by the composer himself and the distinguished jury members.

The competition is organized by the Koper Music School (branches Izola and Piran), the Rotary Club Portorož and Municipality of Piran, who work with dedication to offer participants the finest conditions and the warmest welcome. The international jury brings together experienced teachers, performers, and composers who understand both the discipline and the dream behind every note.

With a prize fund of €2,400, concert opportunities, summer courses, and practical awards, we celebrate excellence – but above all, we honor every young musician’s courage and effort, with medals and diplomas for all participants.

A thread of charity and solidarity also runs through our competition: through this project, the Rotary Club Portorož raises funds for talented young musicians, supporting their artistic journey.

What’s new this year:
– The joyful return of the four-hand piano discipline
– A new required piece for the youngest violinists (Anastazija Juvan)
– A refined selection of Bojan Glavina’s works for pianists
– New time guidelines for original compositions

Please read the regulations carefully for all details.

Dear young musicians, dear colleagues, accompanists, parents, and friends of the arts – welcome to Piran, beneath Tartini’s arch, for music, for beauty, for that fleeting moment when art opens a window into infinity.

On behalf of the competition organizing committee,
Aleksandra Češnjevar Glavina, artistic director of the competition
